Description
Delightful dessert featuring fresh strawberries encased in a flaky crust, perfect for summer gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups fresh strawberries, hulled and halved
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons cornstarch
- 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- A pinch of salt
- 1 pie crust (store-bought or homemade)
- Milk (for brushing the crust)
- Optional: Whipped cream (for serving)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). While the oven is warming up, prepare your pie crust in a 9-inch pie dish.
- Toss the halved strawberries with sugar, cornstarch, lemon juice, and a pinch of salt. Allow to sit for about 10 minutes.
- Pour the strawberry mixture into the pie crust, spreading it evenly. Dot with small pieces of butter.
- Create a lattice pattern with extra pie crust or cover the pie with a full crust and cut slits for steam to escape.
- Brush the top crust lightly with milk and bake for about 30 minutes or until golden brown.
- Cool the pie completely on a wire rack before serving.
Notes
For a lighter option, consider using a whole wheat crust or natural sweeteners. Serve with fresh mint or balsamic glaze for a unique touch.
