Ingredients
Scale
- 4 cups all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
- 1/4 cup granulated sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) active dry yeast
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup warm milk (around 110°F)
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 2 large eggs
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (optional)
- 1/2 cup raisins or currants (optional)
Instructions
- Warm the milk until it’s just warm to the touch, then pour into a large mixing bowl. Sprinkle in the active dry yeast along with a pinch of sugar. Let sit for about 5-10 minutes until frothy.
- Add the melted butter, eggs, honey, and vanilla extract into the mixture. Combine until homogenous.
- Gradually stir in the flour, sugar, and salt. If using cinnamon, add it now. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead on a floured surface for about 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Place the kneaded dough into a lightly greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour.
- Punch down the risen dough gently, divide into 12-16 pieces, and shape into balls.
- Arrange the dough balls in a greased baking dish, cover, and let rest for an additional 30 minutes.
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Brush the tops of the buns with melted butter.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes until golden brown and fragrant. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
For added sweetness, drizzles of honey or a light icing can enhance your honey buns.
