Description
Indulge in crispy chicken wings slathered in rich, savory gravy; a game-changer for weeknight dinners or cozy nights in.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds of chicken wings
- Salt and pepper, to taste
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free alternative)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or olive oil)
- 4 cups chicken broth
- 1 medium onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- Optional: fresh herbs for garnish (like parsley or thyme)
Instructions
- Pat the chicken wings dry with paper towels. Sprinkle salt, pepper, paprika, thyme, and onion powder on the wings to season them evenly. Let marinate for at least 15 minutes.
- Heat the vegetable oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Once hot, add the seasoned chicken wings in a single layer. Cook for about 5-7 minutes on each side until golden brown.
- Remove the wings from the skillet and set aside. In the same skillet, add chopped onions and garlic, cooking until translucent and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes. Stir in the flour to create a roux.
- Gradually pour in the chicken broth while whisking continuously to prevent lumps. Bring to a gentle simmer and let thicken.
- Return the chicken wings to the skillet, spooning gravy over them. Cover and cook on low heat for an additional 20 minutes.
Notes
For a healthier option, use skinless chicken wings or replace all-purpose flour with chickpea flour.
