Description

Delicious soft cinnamon rolls infused with pumpkin and topped with a creamy glaze, perfect for a cozy fall treat.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour (plus extra for dusting)
  • 1/4 cup milk (or a non-dairy alternative)
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter (melted)
  • 1/4 cup pumpkin puree (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon instant yeast
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon pumpkin pie spice (or a mix of cinnamon and nutmeg)
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar (for filling)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon (for filling)
  • 1 tablespoon unsalted butter (softened, for filling)
  • 2 ounces cream cheese (softened, for glaze)
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar (for glaze)
  • 1 tablespoon milk (or a non-dairy alternative, for glaze)
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (for glaze)

Instructions

  1. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, instant yeast, pumpkin pie spice, and salt. Whisk these dry ingredients until evenly mixed.
  2. In a separate bowl, mix the melted butter, pumpkin puree, and milk together until well blended.
  3. Slowly stir this wet mixture into the dry ingredients. Use your hands or a spatula to fold the mixture until it forms a cohesive dough.
  4. Lightly flour your countertop and transfer the dough. Knead it gently for about 2-3 minutes until smooth.
  5. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick. Spread the softened butter for the filling across the surface, and then sprinkle the brown sugar and cinnamon mixture evenly.
  6. Carefully roll the dough tightly from one long side to the other, ensuring the filling stays in. Pinch the seams to seal it.
  7. Cut the rolled dough into equal pieces about 1-1.5 inches thick.
  8. Arrange the cut rolls in a greased small baking dish or cast-iron skillet, allowing space between each roll.
  9. Cover with a clean cloth and let them rest for about 15 minutes to rise a little more.
  10. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Bake the rolls for approximately 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.
  11. While the rolls are baking, prepare the glaze by mixing the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, milk, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  12. After baking, allow the rolls to cool slightly before drizzling the cream cheese glaze on top.

Notes

For gluten-free option, replace all-purpose flour with gluten-free flour blend. For a dairy-free version, use plant-based milk and cream cheese.
