Description

A delicious Salisbury steak recipe served with savory gravy and creamy mashed potatoes, perfect for comfort food lovers.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef (85% lean recommended)
  • 1/4 cup bread crumbs (can substitute with gluten-free bread crumbs)
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour (or gluten-free flour)
  • 2 cups beef broth (low-sodium preferred)
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce (or coconut aminos for gluten-free)
  • Fresh parsley for garnish
  • Sautéed mushrooms or bell peppers as a topping

Instructions

  1. Combine ground beef, bread crumbs, milk, finely chopped onion, egg, garlic powder, Worcestershire sauce, and salt and pepper in a large mixing bowl. Mix until just combined.
  2. Shape the mixture into four equal patties. Make a small indentation in the center of each patty.
  3. Heat a large skillet over medium-high heat and add oil. Carefully place the patties in the skillet. Cook for 4–5 minutes on each side until browned and fully cooked.
  4. Remove the patties from the skillet and set aside.
  5. Melt butter in the same skillet and add diced onions. Sauté until translucent, about 3–4 minutes.
  6. Sprinkle the flour over the onions and stir well. Gradually pour in the beef broth while whisking continuously until smooth.
  7. Stir in soy sauce, let it simmer until it thickens. Return the patties to the skillet and spoon gravy over them.
  8. Serve with sides, drizzling gravy generously and garnish with fresh parsley.

Notes

Consider lightening the dish by using ground turkey and cauliflower puree for the gravy.
