Description

A rich and savory sauce perfect for elevating your homemade ravioli.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon fresh oregano
  • 1 can (14 oz) crushed tomatoes
  • ½ teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • Salt and black pepper to taste
  • Freshly grated Parmesan cheese for serving

Instructions

  1. Heat the olive oil in a large saucepan over medium heat. Toss in the minced garlic and sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant.
  2. Sprinkle in the fresh basil and oregano, then add the crushed tomatoes and stir to combine.
  3. Season with red pepper flakes and add the sugar to balance the acidity. Stir and let it simmer gently.
  4. Cover the saucepan and let the sauce cook for about 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  5. Taste and adjust salt and pepper before serving. Blend briefly for a smoother consistency if desired.

Notes

This sauce can be made ahead of time and tastes even better as the flavors meld together.
