Description

A warm and comforting apple crisp with tender, cinnamon-spiced apples and a buttery crumbly topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 to 8 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (adjustable to taste)
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • A pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. Toss the apple slices with granulated sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice; set aside.
  3. Combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt in a bowl.
  4. Incorporate the softened butter into the dry mixture to create a crumbly texture.
  5. Spread the apple mixture evenly in a greased 9×13 inch baking dish.
  6. Sprinkle the crumbly topping over the apples.
  7. Bake for about 45 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and the apples are tender.
  8. Remove from the oven and let rest for about 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a sweeter topping, consider using brown sugar in place of granulated sugar. Use gluten-free flour for a gluten-free version.
