  • Author: larsen
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A vibrant, sweet, and tangy orange sauce that’s easy to make and perfect for enhancing grilled meats, fish, or vegetables.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup orange juice (freshly squeezed is ideal)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons honey or maple syrup
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons ginger, minced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • Zest of one orange
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Start by grabbing a medium saucepan and pour in the cup of orange juice.
  2. Add in the soy sauce, rice vinegar, honey, and sesame oil. Stir gently until well combined.
  3. In a small bowl, combine the cornstarch with a few tablespoons of cold water to create a slurry.
  4. Bring the mixture to a gentle simmer over medium heat, stirring to prevent sticking.
  5. As the sauce thickens, stir in the minced ginger, garlic, zest, and red pepper flakes, if using.
  6. Taste your creation and adjust the seasoning with salt or pepper as needed.
  7. Allow your orange sauce to cool slightly before using it in your favorite dishes.

Notes

This sauce pairs well with grilled chicken, pork, tofu, and as a dipping sauce for appetizers. Adjust sweetness to taste.
