- 1 tablespoon baking soda
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Coarse sea salt, for sprinkling
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Combine the water, baking soda, and sugar in a mixing bowl. Stir until dissolved.
- Add the flour and salt to the wet mixture; mix until it forms a dough.
- Knead the dough on a floured surface for about five minutes, then let it rest for another five minutes.
- Divide the dough into small balls and shape them into long ropes, about 1-inch thick.
- Dip each pretzel into the baking soda mixture, letting the excess drip off.
- Brush with the beaten egg and sprinkle with coarse sea salt.
- Bake for 12 to 15 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Cool slightly before decorating with colored chocolate or icing.
Notes
Store pretzels in an airtight container at room temperature for up to three days or freeze for up to three months. Best served fresh.
