Description

Delightful crispy chicken wonton tacos bursting with flavor, perfect for family dinners or gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground chicken or finely chopped chicken
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon ginger, minced
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 12 wonton wrappers
  • Oil for frying (vegetable or canola)
  • Shredded lettuce (optional)
  • Diced tomatoes (optional)
  • Avocado or guacamole (optional)
  • Sour cream or Greek yogurt (optional)
  • Hot sauce (optional)

Instructions

  1. Start by heating a pan over medium heat. Add the sesame oil and let it warm up just enough for a sizzle. Toss in your minced garlic and ginger, stirring them lightly to release their aroma—this should take about a minute.
  2. Now, add your ground chicken to the pan, breaking it up using your spatula. Cook it until it’s browned and cooked through, roughly five to seven minutes. Add in the soy sauce, oyster sauce, black pepper, and chopped green onions, mixing until everything is well combined and heated.
  3. While your chicken filling is cooling a bit, take those wonton wrappers and position them in muffin tins, pressing them gently to form taco shapes. This can take a little finesse, but it’s totally worth it for that crispy texture!
  4. Carefully heat the oil in a deep pot or skillet over medium-high heat. Once the oil is shimmering, it’s ready for frying! Add the wonton shells to the oil, cooking in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry them until they turn golden brown and crispy, usually about two to three minutes. Use a slotted spoon to transfer them to a paper towel-lined plate to absorb excess oil.
  5. Now it’s assembly time! Grab your crispy wonton taco shells and fill each one with the flavorful chicken mixture. Top with shredded lettuce, tomatoes, and any additional toppings your heart desires!

Notes

For a lighter version, substitute chicken with ground turkey or a plant-based meat. Wonton wrappers can be baked instead of fried.
