Indulge in creamy and cheesy au gratin potatoes baked to golden perfection. A classic side dish perfect for any occasion.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 pounds of russet or Yukon gold potatoes
  • 2 cups of heavy cream (or half-and-half)
  • 2 cups of shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 1 cup of grated Parmesan cheese
  • 2 cloves of garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon of salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons of fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Peel the potatoes and slice them very thinly, about 1/8 inch thick.
  3. Combine the heavy cream, minced garlic, salt, pepper, and nutmeg in a saucepan. Heat over medium until simmering.
  4. Layer the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish, drizzling with the cream mixture and sprinkling cheddar cheese in between layers.
  5. Cover with aluminum foil and bake for 45 minutes.
  6. Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, until bubbling and golden brown.
  7. Let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

For a healthier option, swap potatoes with cauliflower or use skim milk instead of cream.
