  • Author: Mark Bennett
  • Total Time: 25 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

A quick and flavorful beef stir fry with vibrant veggies and a savory sauce, perfect for busy weeknights.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 cups mixed vegetables (bell peppers, broccoli, carrots, snap peas)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or sesame oil)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 inch fresh ginger, grated
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes (adjust to taste)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Cooked rice or noodles, for serving

Instructions

  1. Begin by preparing your ingredients. Thinly slice the flank steak against the grain, ensuring tender bites. Spend a moment prepping your veggies; colorful bell peppers, crisp broccoli, and sweet carrots add great texture and flavor.
  2. In a bowl, toss the sliced beef with cornstarch, soy sauce, and a pinch of salt and pepper. The cornstarch helps create a lovely glaze once cooked. Let it marinate while you heat your pan.
  3. Heat a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Pour in vegetable oil and swirl to coat the pan. Once hot, add the marinated beef in a single layer. Avoid crowding the pan to allow proper browning.
  4. After a couple of minutes, when the beef is almost cooked, add in the minced garlic, grated ginger, and red pepper flakes. Stir-fry everything together until fully cooked and fragrant.
  5. Now, toss in your mixed veggies. Stir-fry for another 3 to 5 minutes until the veggies are vibrant and tender yet crisp.
  6. Splash in oyster sauce if using and adjust seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Stir well to combine all the flavors, and your stir fry is ready!
  7. Serve hot over a bed of cooked rice or noodles. Enjoy your homemade beef stir fry with vegetables!

Notes

For a lighter option, swap beef for tofu or chickpeas. For gluten-free, ensure soy sauce is gluten-free.
