Description

A delicious beef and broccoli stir-fry recipe that’s quick to prepare and perfect for weeknight dinners.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound of beef (flank steak, sirloin, or ribeye, thinly sliced against the grain)
  • 4 cups of fresh broccoli florets
  • 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil (or any high smoke point oil)
  • 4 cloves of garlic (minced)
  • 1 teaspoon of fresh ginger (grated)
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch (to tenderize beef)
  • 1/4 cup of soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
  • 2 tablespoons of oyster sauce
  • 2 tablespoons of mirin (or a splash of apple cider as a substitute)
  • 1 teaspoon of sesame oil
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Cooked rice or noodles for serving
  • Optional: 1 bell pepper (sliced, for added color)
  • Optional: 1 tablespoon of hoisin sauce (for sweetness)
  • Optional: Sesame seeds (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Begin by marinating the beef. In a bowl, mix the sliced beef with cornstarch, a pinch of salt, and a splash of soy sauce. Let it sit for about 10 minutes.
  2. While the beef marinates, bring a large pot of water to boil. Blanch the broccoli florets for 2-3 minutes until they turn bright green and crisp-tender. Drain and rinse them under cold water.
  3. Heat a large skillet or wok over high heat. Once hot, add the vegetable oil. Sear the beef in a single layer for about 3-4 minutes or until browned. Move the beef to a plate.
  4. Add a touch more oil if needed and toss in the garlic and ginger. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant.
  5. Stir-fry the blanched broccoli for another 2-3 minutes.
  6. Return the cooked beef to the skillet. Pour in the remaining soy sauce, oyster sauce, mirin, and sesame oil. Toss to coat and cook for an additional minute.
  7. Serve hot over steamed rice or tossed with noodles. Sprinkle sesame seeds on top.

Notes

Feel free to swap beef with chicken, turkey, or tofu. Can be made healthier with low-carb or gluten-free options.
