Description
A classic dessert that combines baked apples with a crunchy, buttery topping, perfect for chilly evenings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 6 to 8 medium apples (Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice (freshly squeezed)
- 1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
- 1 cup old-fashioned rolled oats
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 3/4 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C).
- Peel, core, and slice the apples into thin wedges. In a large mixing bowl, combine the apple slices, granulated sugar, cinnamon, lemon juice, and flour. Toss everything gently to coat each apple slice evenly.
- Transfer the apple mixture into a greased baking dish, spreading it out evenly.
- In another bowl, mix the rolled oats, flour, brown sugar, melted butter, and salt until it resembles coarse crumbs.
- Pour the oat mixture over the apple filling, spreading it out evenly.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 30 to 45 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the topping is golden brown.
- Once done, remove the crisp from the oven and let it cool for at least 10 minutes before serving.
Notes
For a gluten-free option, substitute regular flour with almond flour or a gluten-free baking mix. For vegan, replace butter with coconut oil or vegan butter.
